Overview

Employer: The German Development Cooperation (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit, (GIZ) GmbH; Projects: “CARIBIO”, “BioWaste Caribbean” & “Circular Economy Caribbean”.

Place & Modality Local Position, Full time; based in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
Duration August 2026 until July 2027, with possibility for extension.

Duties

  • Coordinate and implement project activities in St. Vincent and the Grenadines and support regional cooperation with St. Lucia, Grenada, Dominica and Jamaica.
  • Support a National Ecosystem Assessment (NEA) process in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
  • Identify and collect all relevant data for the NEA, including peer reviewed journal articles, project reports, national databases, Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) reports, policy documents, student theses, maps, surveys etc., including data which are not available online but are instead housed in various Government Ministries.
  • Support development and implementation of Circular Economy (CE)-relevant policies, regulations and economic instruments (e.g. EPR, landfill levies, ban)
  • Support institutional capacity of the Solid Waste Management Unit (SWMU) under the Central Water and Sewage Authority (CWSA)
  • Support demonstration projects for waste reduction, reuse and recycling in SVG.
  • Identify and support CE business models and investment-ready initiatives (link to ACE Facility/CBF)
  • Contribute to awareness-raising and capacity-building activities related to CE and the NEA process for stakeholders in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
  • Act as GIZ focal point for the Sustainable Development Unit in St. Vincent and the Grenadines and support the Unit with GIZ-related activities and requests.
  • Provide technical and policy advice on biodiversity and circular economy topics with a focus on the context of St. Vincent and the Grenadines to other relevant GIZ and partner projects in the Caribbean.

Profile requirements (I)

Qualifications
 University degree in Environmental Sciences, Marine Sciences, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Economics, Circular Economy, or a related field.
 Candidate must be a Citizen of St. Vincent & the Grenadines or hold a valid work permit for this country.

Professional Experience & Technical Knowledge

  • 5 years of professional experience, with at least 3 years in natural resource management, biodiversity, climate change, circular economy, or related areas.
  • Work experience in or with CARICOM, OECS, or other relevant regional institution or national ministries in St. Vincent and the Grenadines and/or international cooperation sector’s organizations.
  • Strong facilitation, coordination, and networking skills with government, civil society, and private sector actors.
  • Proven experience in policy guidance, providing capacity development support as well as coordinating complex multi-stakeholder settings.
  • Familiarity with participatory approaches and working with community-based organizations and non-governmental organisations.

Skills & Competences

  • Experience with data collection, reporting and analytics.
  • Excellent communication skills in English (oral and written).
  • Strong commitment to gender equality and social inclusion.
  • Excellent organisational and analytical skills, ability to work independently and in teams, even if team is not physically present on island.
  • Proficiency in standard IT applications (MS Office).
  • Willingness to upskill as required by the tasks to be performed.
  • Willingness to travel regularly within the Eastern Caribbean region.
  • Willingness to travel outside the region.

Desirable qualifications

  • Gender competence and good understanding of community needs.
  • Valid driver’s license or willingness to acquire one.
