Job Title: Midwife
Position: Full- Time

Job Summary
Tapion Hospital is seeking a compassionate, experienced, and skilled Midwife to join our dedicated maternity care team. The successful candidate will provide high-quality, holistic care to women throughout pregnancy, labor, birth, and the postnatal period, in accordance with hospital policies, national standards, and best clinical practices.

Key Responsibilities
The Midwife will be responsible for:

  • Conducting comprehensive antenatal assessments, including maternal and fetal monitoring.
  • Identifying high-risk pregnancies and referring or escalating care appropriately.
  • Providing continuous clinical and emotional support to women during labor and delivery.
  • Monitoring labor progress using appropriate tools and clinical guidelines.
  • Performing normal vaginal deliveries within scope of practice.
  • Recognizing and responding promptly to obstetric emergencies (e.g., postpartum hemorrhage, eclampsia).
  • Assisting obstetricians and other healthcare providers with procedures when required.
  • Providing immediate newborn care, including assessment and resuscitation where necessary.
  • Delivering postnatal care to both mother and baby, including breastfeeding support and health education.
  • Administering medications and treatments safely and accurately in accordance with physician orders and hospital policy.
  • Maintaining accurate, complete, and timely documentation of patient care.
  • Educating patients and families on pregnancy, childbirth, newborn care, postpartum recovery, and family planning.
  • Ensuring infection prevention and control practices are consistently followed.
  • Collaborating effectively with obstetricians, pediatricians, nurses, anesthetists, and other multidisciplinary team members.
  • Upholding ethical standards, patient confidentiality, dignity, and informed consent at all times.

Academic Qualifications

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Midwifery from a recognized institution.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Associate Degree in Nursing (BSN/ADN) is required.

Licensure/Certification

  • Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license is required.
  • Certification in Neonatal Resuscitation and Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO) certification is considered an asset.

  • Minimum of two (2) years of clinical midwifery experience, preferably in a hospital setting.

  • Empathy, patience, and the ability to provide emotional support.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and focused under pressure.

  • Maintain accurate and complete patient records.
  • Ensure clear and timely documentation of assessments, interventions, and outcomes.

  • Advocate for women’s health rights and choices.
  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives within the institution.
