Job Title: Archivist/CEO – National Archives Authority of St. Lucia
Statutory Authority: National Archives Authority of St. Lucia
Location: Clarke Avenue, Vigie, Castries, Saint Lucia
Reports to: The Board of The National Archives
JOB SUMMARY
The Archivist/CEO is responsible for the acquisition, management, preservation and accessibility of St. Lucia’s historical records and documentary heritage in accordance with national and international archival standards. Overseas archival collections, implements policies for record preservation, promotes public access to archival materials and leads strategic initiatives to enhance the National Archives’ functions in compliance with Section 7 (1) of the National Archives Authority of Saint Lucia Act, Cap. 17.07.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and implement policies and procedures for the acquisition, preservation, protection and management of archival records and other historical materials.
- Oversee the acquisition, accessioning, cataloguing, appraisal, description, proper storage and digitization of archival records and other historical materials.
- Develop a National Archives Conservation Plan.
- Lead the development of digital archiving initiatives to enhance the preservation and accessibility of records.
- Facilitate public access to archival resources through activities such as exhibitions and outreach programmes.
- Collaborate with government agencies, heritage organizations and educational institutions locally and internationally to promote archival research on St. Lucia’s history and culture.
- Integrate all relevant IT practices into the management of The National Archives. 8. Assist in grant writing and fundraising activities that support archival projects.
- Develop and manage The National Archives’ budget in collaboration with The National Archives Board, ensuring the efficient allocation of resources.
- Supervise, train and provide professional development opportunities for archival staff. 11. Advocate for the importance of preserving Saint Lucia’s historical and cultural heritage. 12. Represent The National Archives Authority in local, regional and international archival forums. 13. Serve as Secretary to the Board.
KEY COMPETENCIES
- Knowledge of archival principles, records management and digital preservation techniques. * Excellent research and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of Caribbean history.
- Leadership and team management.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping.
- Ability to communicate effectively with strong oral and written skills
- Familiarity with database management software and archiving software.
- Ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders.
- Strong advocacy for cultural heritage and archival preservation.
- Expertise in preserving records in various formats.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Master’s degree in Archives Administration/Management and at least ten years’ experience in a senior position.
- Master’s degree in a relevant subject such as Records Management, Library Science or History plus an Advanced diploma/certificate in Archives Administration or Management plus seven years’ experience in a senior position..
- Bachelor’s degree in related field and at least ten years’ practical experience in Archival Management.
EMPLOYMENT TERMS
Full time position with competitive salary and benefits based on qualifications and experience or Contractual terms. May require occasional travel for conferences and professional development.
