Employer The German Development Cooperation (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit, (GIZ) GmbH; Projects: “BioWaste Caribbean” and “Circular Economy Caribbean”.

Place & Modality Local Position, Full time; based in Grenada, with regular travel to St. Lucia (main project office) and occasional regional or international missions.

Duration September 2026 until August 2027, with possibility for extension.

Duties

  • Coordinate and implement project activities in Grenada and support regional cooperation with St. Lucia, Dominica, SVG, and Jamaica.
  • Facilitate cooperation between solid waste authorities and private companies to develop PPPs.
  • Facilitate cooperation between public institutions and private sector entities (chambers, industry associations and individual businesses to improve waste prevention, resource recovery and management.
  • Provide technical and organisational support to micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in developing sustainable Circular Economy and BioWaste business models.
  • Provide technical and organizational support to public institutions and private sector entities in designing and implementing activities in the Circular Economy, organic waste management, resource recovery and Sargassum valorization.
  • Support the development of financing opportunities and investment readiness / establishment and monitoring of financing mechanisms for local entrepreneurs, with a particular focus on women-led enterprises.
  • Contribute to awareness-raising and capacity-building activities on sustainable waste management and Circular Economy.
  • Collect and analyse data to support project reporting, monitoring, and evaluation at both the national and regional level.
  • Provide technical advice and support the development of policies, strategies, action plans and demonstration projects on biowaste, sargassum and Circular Economy-related issues to other relevant GIZ and partner projects in the Caribbean.

Profile requirements
(I) Qualifications

  • University degree in Waste management, Environmental Economics, Circular Economy, or a related field.
  • 5–10 years of professional experience, with at least 3 years in circular economy or related areas.
  • Candidate must be a Citizen of Grenada or hold a valid work permit for this country.

Professional Experience & Technical Knowledge

  • Familiarity with participatory approaches, and working with Solid Waste Authorities, MSMEs or community-based organisations.
  • Work experience in or with CARICOM, OECS, or other relevant regional/ national institutions (public and private), and/or international cooperation sector’s organizations.
  • Proven experience in multi-stakeholder coordination and regional cooperation, ideally in the Eastern Caribbean.
  • Strong facilitation, coordination, and networking skills with government, civil society, and private sector actors.
  • Proven experience in policy guidance, providing capacity development support as well as coordinating complex multi-stakeholder settings.

Skills & Competences

Profile requirements (II)

  • Experience with data collection, reporting and analytics.
  • Excellent communication skills in English (oral and written); knowledge of Spanish, French, is an asset.
  • Strong commitment to gender equality, social inclusion, and climate resilience.
  • Excellent organisational and analytical skills, ability to work independently and in teams.
  • Proficiency in standard IT applications (MS Office).
  • Proven experience in policy guidance, providing capacity development support as well as coordinating complex multi-stakeholder settings.
