Place & Modality Local Position, Full time; based in Saint Lucia.
Duration September 2026 to August 2027.

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented professional as Technical Advisor in Biodiversity that will provide technical lead for the “biodiversity governance” output of the CARIBIO project, advisory services, stakeholder engagement, and will work closely with project team.

This position offers an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in regional development cooperation, strategic communication, and results-based monitoring within a dynamic, multi project environment until August 2027.

Duties
Key Responsibilities

  • Provide advisory services to the CARICOM Secretariat in Guyana on various biodiversity matters,
  • Support the Secretariat with the operationalization of a technical and scientific cooperation mechanism with regard to biodiversity at CARICOM level and support first activities for improved cooperation, exchange and resource mobilization,
  • Support with the finalization of the draft Caribbean Biodiversity Strategy,
  • In cooperation with the team leader and the assessment team, support the National Ecosystem Assessment (NEA) in Saint Lucia or Saint Vincent and the Grenadines,
  • Responsible for drafting of Terms of Reference and Service Contracts and supervision of short-term assignments,
  • If necessary, conduct missions to participate in the CARICOM Member States
    activities on behalf of the project and in compliance with the company policies,
  • Coordinate and organize events, delegation trips, trainings and participation in regional and international events,
  • Contribute to knowledge management, project monitoring and gender-sensitive project planning and communication,
  • Provide advisory services on biodiversity, climate change, natural resource management, blue economy and related fields to other relevant GIZ projects in the Caribbean.

Profile requirements (I)

Qualifications & Professional Experience

  • University degree in biology, environmental studies, natural resource management, political sciences, project management or a related field.
  • Specializations or certifications in a related field are desirable.
  • 5 to 7 years’ professional experience, with at least 3 years’ professional experience in a comparable position.
  • Demonstrated experience in SIDS with a focus on biodiversity, natural resource management and/or climate change adaptation.
  • Work experience as an advisor for or in a CARICOM institution or another regional/ national public sector entity will an asset.
  • Work experience in international cooperation sector’s organizations.
  • Proven experience in policy guidance, providing capacity development support as well as coordinating complex multi-stakeholder settings,
  • Candidate must be a Citizen of St. Lucia or hold a valid work permit for this country.

Other relevant qualifications:

  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills,
  • Good team player with excellent communication, facilitation, conflict resolution and negotiation skills,
  • Fluent written and oral knowledge of the English language, Spanish or French would be considered an asset,
  • Very good knowledge of ITC technologies (e.g. Ms. Office),
  • Willingness to upskill as required by the tasks to be performed,
  • Willingness to travel in/outside the region regularly,

Desirable qualifications:

  • Gender competence.
  • Valid driver’s license or willingness to acquire one.
