Place & Modality Local Position, Full time; Project office in Castries, St. Lucia, occasional travel within the country and the region.
Duration April 2026 – March 2027, with possibility for extension based on project needs and performance
Duties Carbon markets serve as an effective and cost-efficient tool for mitigating climate change. Alongside other greenhouse gas pricing mechanisms, such as CO2 taxes, these markets encourage climate-friendly investments. Both compliance and voluntary markets continue evolving, necessitating robust regulatory frameworks across international, national, and sub-national governments. Government officials are aligning their climate strategies and institutional processes with evolving international regulations on carbon markets and other climate financing mechanisms. These steps enable countries to secure additional funding to achieve their climate protection goals. The Junior Advisor will work in the Caribbean component of the global GIZ project and will conduct the following main activities:
- Support the coordination and implementation of carbon market pilot projects within the Caribbean.
- Assist in building technical capacity among national and regional relevant stakeholders.
- Support coordination with partner organizations, implementing agencies, and stakeholders of the carbon market.
- Contribute to the organization of workshops, training sessions, and capacity building activities for stakeholders.
- Assist in the development of Terms of Reference, Studies and conducting research.
- Assist in the preparation of project documentation, activity reports and monitoring of project activities.
- Support communication and awareness-raising activities related carbon markets.
- Support knowledge management, documentation of lessons learned, and sharing of best practices
- Support the Programme Manager in the overall implementation of the project.
Profile requirements (I) Qualifications
- Master’s degree in environmental Business Administration or Economics.
Professional Experience and Technical Knowledge
- At least 2 year professional experience working in the private sector,
- Experience working with government agencies, NGOs, private sector companies, or international development projects is an advantage
- Basic knowledge of carbon markets and Article 6,
- Basic understanding of climate policy, climate change mitigation and climate finance.
- Familiarity with Caribbean island’s climate policy approaches.
- Knowledge of project management and coordination.

- Good communication skills in English (written and spoken),
- Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and data management,
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders,
- Self-motivated with ability to work independently and as part of a team,
- Willingness to travel within Saint Lucia and other islands in the region as required,
- Willingness to upskill as required by the tasks to be performed,
