Overview
A leading financial institution is actively seeking a visionary and accomplished leader to take on the role of General Manager.
Summary of Position
The General Manager will be accountable to the Board of Directors for the effective planning, coordination, and execution of the organization’s strategy and financial targets, and the efficient and profitable leadership of operations while ensuring that the organization remains compliant with set standards, policies, and legislation. As the chief executive and technical officer of the organization, he/she will keep the Board, Employees, and other stakeholders duly informed and excited about the organization’s plans, developments, and achievements.
Duties & Responsibilities
Planning
- To develop appropriate strategic plans, policies, annual operating plans, and CAPEX budgets for recommendation to the Board of Directors for deliberation, analysis, and approval.
- To effectively execute the strategies and enforce the policies agreed by the Board of Directors in compliance with the standards set out in the strategic plan or as otherwise required by the Board of Directors.
Accountability
- To report to the Board of Directors at each Board meeting ALL matters relevant to their role.
- To update the Board of Directors on the financial position of the Organization, including submitting to the Board of Directors monthly, unaudited financial statements ensuring accuracy and completeness.
Human Resources
- To lead, coach, develop, monitor, review, and oversee the performance of employees and maintain an effective working environment.
- To ensure that plans are in place for the development, training, and motivation of employees to maintain high levels of employee morale and productivity at all times.
- To deal with employee matters relating to hiring, performance appraisals, disciplinary procedures, and conditions of service/work in accordance with procedures laid down in the Organization’s policy.
- To manage and ensure effective employee/labor relations by establishing effective communication lines/methods, identifying and solving employee problems, managing conflict, and responding to grievances in a timely manner.
Budgetary Controls
- To achieve or exceed the financial surplus and yield on assets (ROA) projected in the Annual Budget, by prudent authorization of expenditure within budget in accordance with guidelines agreed with the Board of Directors and by proactive generation, strong recovery, and good margins management.
Operational oversight
- To focus the Organization’s Operations to provide excellent customer services to the clients.
- To ensure there is adequate planning of the Organization’s AGM and SGMs in keeping with the rules.
- To ensure full compliance with relevant legislation and policies.
- To attend and resource all Board Meetings, contribute to meetings of such committees as may be directed by the Board of Directors, and deploy suitable staff to resource the statutory and ad hoc Committees.
- To represent the Organization in its dealings with external bodies and to undertake such negotiations with external service providers, partners, and other Organizations as may be necessary.
- To manage the Organization’s Information System ensuring effective utilization, updates, maintenance, operational controls, and offsite system backups.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
- A bachelor’s degree in business, management, or finance.
- A minimum of 5 – 10 years’ experience in a senior management position in a financial institution, and/or equivalent experience that allows the candidate to meet the intellectual demands of the job.
- Knowledgeable of trends in the financial industry.
- Strong proven leadership skills to ensure continued high individual performance and achievement of business goals.
- Strong ability to interpret legislation and financial reports, identify risks, and make sound financial recommendations.
- Working knowledge of the Microsoft suite particularly, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication and presentation skills.
- Excellent analytical, problem‐solving, and above all, implementation abilities.
